Why this program?
Leaders invest valuable time and money in devising their strategies for future growth, and yet - as Ernst & Young found in a recent survey, only a third of all corporate strategies ever come to fruition. While a number of factors contribute to this alarming result, a key consideration is whether leaders' and employees' every-day activities are aligned to the organisation's overall strategy.
The number one enemy of any corporate strategy is poor execution. All across the business landscape, the ability of an organisation to execute its strategy is one of the most critical elements of success. But with the aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis characterised by shrinking workforces and higher individual workloads, how do we do more with less, when we don't have any more time to work with?
A common consequence of this predicament is that leaders and their teams struggle with the balance between working on what's most 'URGENT!' versus what's most 'IMPORTANT'. More often than not, the 'URGENT' gets the attention at the expense of more important tasks - particularly those aligned to the organisation's top priority goals, and - of course - life balance.
As economic, consumer, regulatory and competitive pressures mount, business owners, executives and their teams are under increasing pressure to deliver more with less. Continued development of information technology is speeding up the volume of communication and workflow on the one hand, but also contributing to information overload and increasingly unproductive distractions on the other.
The average leader wastes hundreds of hours a year searching for information they need amongst information they don't need. Their schedules are chock-full with meetings - many of which will be ineffective. More and more, decisions are being made 'on the fly' under the veil of 'thinking on our feet' but often at the last minute, or with insufficient consideration and collaboration. Day-to-day tasks are increasingly becoming reactive rather than proactive... often dictated by emails received that day, or urgent 'fires' that needs to be put out (often caused by those speedy decisions mentioned above).
People are certainly more 'busy' these days, but are they truly productive? Are they focusing their everyday activities on their organisation's high priority goals? The answer to these questions can make the difference between success and failure for any organisation.
While the pace and volume of work has increased considerably over the past two decades, most people have not adapted their work habits to maximise their efficiency and effectiveness and stay on top of all their responsibilities. Bad habits have crept in without people realising their detrimental effect on their productivity... and ultimately the organisation's bottom line and their own life-work balance.
Through our work with some of the largest companies in Australia, we know that, in order for a business strategy to be successfully implemented, there must be a clear alignment between organisational
objectives and what individuals are working on and—just as importantly — how they work day-to-day, minute-by-minute.
Creating a high performance culture through efficient and effective work habits provides businesses with the edge that they need to succeed in this highly competitive environment.
Using the principles of Cyril Peupion's popular book "Work Smarter: Live Better", this program is designed to 're-set' your work habits and that of your team so that your day-to-day actions will have the best impact on your performance, on the performance of your organisation and on your overall life balance.
