Why Extended DISC?
Our level of emotional and social intelligence plays a critical role in the overall quality of our personal and professional lives. In fact, many experts now believe that our emotional intelligence (the ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groups) and our social intelligence (the capacity to effectively negotiate complex social relationships and environments) may be more important than our IQ, and is a better predictor of success, quality of relationships, and overall happiness.
The Extended DISC® Personal Behaviour Analysis and Individual Assessment are extremely valuable tools that can form the basis for developing your emotional and social intelligence. Their success is based on their strong ability to provide information to make better decisions. Too often assessments tell us what we already know: "Oh yes, that's me." If a tool only provides information that the user is already aware of, it has very limited value. The Extended DISC® Personal Analysis and Individual Assessments are designed to provide information that makes an impact, is actionable and, most importantly, has a positive impact on performance.
The Extended DISC® System has been designed to help you identify information about yourself and other people to enhance understanding, empathy and personal and professional success. It comprehensively covers participants' behavioral styles, strengths, development areas, skills, opinions, perceptions and expectations, and at the same time educates participants in identifying those traits in other people.
Extended DISC® Theory does not classify people into good or bad. Nor does it limit a person’s possibilities to develop in any other direction or work environment. Extended DISC® Theory describes the person’s natural reaction mode or behavioral style in different situations. It gives the person a better ability to understand one’s own and others' behaviour, to adjust one’s own behaviour to better suit the situation, to avoid unnecessary problems in communication and to point one’s life into the direction where he or she better succeeds and enjoys it the most.
This furnishes participants with a deeper understanding of themselves and a powerful understanding of others, which can be used to enhance success in communication, teamwork, efficiency and effectiveness, decision making, problem solving, strategic thinking, career planning and personal and professional development.
Extended DISC® reports can be created at individual level, team level, divisional level or organisational level: providing clues as to reasons for gaps in performance and ideas for filling those gaps.
As accredited Extended DISC® consultants, Big Picture Thinking coaches present Extended DISC® results to individuals face-to-face or to teams in a workshop format. Extended DISC analysis can also be a powerful supplement to other performance enhancing workshops and programs offered by Big Picture Thinking, as the first step to self-development is self-understanding. With this in mind, Extended DISC® is the first step in our ongoing personal effectiveness coaching service.
